Three reasons to make moments count

I have been thinking about this passage from 2 Thessalonians 1:10-12:

"When he (Christ) comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed. To this end we always pray for you, that God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."

There are no insignificant moments in the life of a Christian. Every moment, and every day should count for the sake of the gospel. In this passage there are three big reasons every moment counts in the life of a believer.

1. Christ is coming: Jesus will return to earth, and will judge the actions of humanity. As Christians are deeds will be judged and rewarded on the basis of the impact they had for eternal purposes. When we stand before him, our prayer should be that our every action reflected the influence of his grace in our lives.

2. Our actions reflect God's work: Every good work that we accomplish isn't the result of our ability or strength, but is a reflection of God's grace at work within us. As Paul writes in Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." The desires that God plants in our hearts to do good, should be done with excellence and we should ask the Holy Spirit to "fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power"

3. The name of the Lord Jesus will be glorified: As believers, every action, thought, and word should serve the single purpose of glorifying Jesus. We should continually seek to worship Jesus with every ounce of our being, pointing people to him. When we live our lives with this resolve we can make every moment count, knowing that our lives are ultimately serving the greater purposes of glorifying Christ.

What does this look like in your life? Are you living life with purpose? Are you making every moment count with the intention of Christ alone being glorified?

Make every moment count!
