Put fear under His feet!

The fifth sign that Jesus performed is found in John six, and follows immediately the miraculous feeding of the 5000. After that powerful miracle the crowd was ready to make Jesus a king. So Jesus retreated to mountain to pray and sent his disciples to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. That is when disaster struck! About three to four miles into their journey, a fierce storm began to rage. Isn’t amazing that on the heels of this powerful miracle, the disciples experienced this intense storm.

Often we find ourselves in the same position as the disciples. We witness the miraculous and then disaster comes into our lives. This can lead to discouragement and disillusionment if we allow it to do so.

But thankfully Jesus did not leave his disciples in the storm; He came walking to them on the sea! He didn’t leave them and He won’t leave us in the storm.

When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea, they became frightened, and it was then that Jesus spoke to them some of the most comforting words in all of Scripture. “It is I; do not be afraid.”

Fear is what often motivates us more than any other emotion. But Jesus is greater than our fears. John reports that when Jesus got on board, immediately they were at their destination. Jesus being “on board” our lives has a way of calming the rough seas and getting us safely to our destination. My encouragement for you today is to put your trust in the only one who has all of your fears “under His feet”, his name is Jesus and today we should continue to worship the Miraculous Messiah!

Your need is the birthplace of the miraculous!

Have you ever been responsible for feeding a lot of people? Those of you with the cooking responsibilities in your family will certainly be able to relate to the sign recorded in John chapter six.  In the text we discover that Jesus miraculously feeds 5000 men with only five loaves of bread and two fish. Now that alone would be a powerful story, but think about the fact that this numbering did not even include the women and children present.

So the crowd could realistically be estimated at upwards of 20-25,000 people. Jesus fed them all.

A pre-cursor to the miracle is the fact that an unknown boy, a child, was willing to share his lunch. If there is one consistent characteristic of children it is that they are selfish. “Mine”, is often one of the first words to come out of their mouth. But not this little boy, he shared what he had, and in the hands of The Miraculous Messiah it was enough to feed the entire crowd and provide twelve baskets of leftovers. We should never underestimate the good that our giving, no matter how insignificant it may be, can accomplish.

Are you willing to share with others what the Lord has provided for you today? This crowd showed up hungry for spiritual things and their spiritual and physical needs were taken care of by Jesus. I have discovered that God has a way of caring for all of our needs, no matter how large or small they may be. We serve a great God who is ready willing and able to do “exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we could ever ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20-21). What is it that you need from Jesus today? Your need is the birthplace of the miraculous!
