Following Jesus in difficult times

 

           Jesus heals the Royal Official's Son

 As the Messiah, The Son of God, Jesus has great authority.

  In our text, John 4:46-54, we will see that authority demonstrated in the healing of the Royal Official’s son. This official represented King Herod Antipas, the son of Herod the Great. It is Herod Antipas who would be responsible for beheading John the Baptist. So out of this evil regime comes an official of this King who is desperate need of a miracle. 

The need for the miraculous knows no boundaries. What is true in our day was true in the days of Jesus. No matter who you are, or what social or economic class you belong to, there will be a moment when you are in need of a miracle. The Bible reports that the man’s son was at the point of death, he was in a desperate situation. But the good news is that Jesus was willing to speak a “Word”, and as the Word made flesh, His words were with power. 

Do you need a Word with power today? Life has a way of making us feel powerless. Disappointments, struggles, sickness, stress, worry, can all leave us feeling powerless. But just as the word of Christ was able to heal the official’s son, the word of Christ can heal our hearts and lives today, providing us direction for the future. It is my prayer for all of you today that you will experience the miraculous love of Jesus Christ, that you will know His ability to speak a word into your life and make all things new.
