Habits

Habits define our lives. Good and bad habits add up to make us who we are. What are some of your habits? Are they healthy or unhealthy habits?

Hebrews 10:25 says “Do not neglect meeting together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day of the Lord’s judgment approaching.” The writer of Hebrews points out that “not meeting together” is a bad habit. So a good habit would be meeting together and connecting with one another. For the next three weeks we are going to focus on what the Word of God teaches us about the importance of being involved with and connected to one another in Christ. According to the book “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg, a habit consist of three parts, a cue, a response, and a reward. This is true for both good and bad habits and is the reason we are creatures of habit. When we deny ourselves the opportunity to connect with one another in the gathered expression of our worship of Jesus and in more intimate small groups, we deny ourselves the rewards of that good habit.

What are the rewards of being connected? There are many, but in the coming weeks we will focus on three rewards of connectivity, “It increases the light of the gospel in our lives, the power of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, and the usefulness of our giftings to the Body of Christ.” I want to encourage all of you to apply this Biblical information to your lives and families in very practical ways, we want to equip you to make a difference in your world by getting connected to your brothers and sisters in Christ. Start today by asking God to open your heart to His word and applying it to your life by taking a next step and investing in one another for the sake of the Kingdom of God!

  1. What are some of the practical benefits to being more connected to your brothers and sisters in Christ? What is one thing you can do today to become more connected?

  1. Why do you think so many today have developed a bad habit of not connecting to one another, and denying themselves the opportunities to meet together and worship Jesus?

  1. Do you know what your spiritual gifts are? Are you using them for the benefit of others and the glory of Christ?
